East Jordan and Bellaire Family Health Center promote the continuance of the Stay Home, Stay Safe Order.
East Jordan, MI. As a community, it is important to continue to follow the Stay Home, Stay Safe Order so that we can continue to “Flatten the Curve.” There are two ways that social distancing will help during this unprecedented time. This order allows time to stockpile supplies needed to treat COVID-19 patients and allows for testing to increase throughout the population.
History demonstrates the need for distancing measures as seen during influenza pandemic of 1918. “Because of the modeling projections, we also know that the 1918 flu pandemic shows us that cities and municipalities that eased up the distancing restrictions too early had more lengthy and elevated illness and death in a second wave. We are also closely monitoring the very real possibility that China may be experiencing a similar second wave of morbidity and mortality from community wide spread of COVID-19,” states Dr. Laurence Yung, Chief Medical Officer of East Jordan Family Health Center.
As we continue to flatten the curve, testing will be expanded to determine the reach of the virus within our community. “We hope with the recent expansion of testing criteria that providers will begin testing more people. We have always mentioned that as testing increases, our positive case numbers will likely increase, too,” shared Josh Meyerson, Medical Director for Health Department of Northwest Michigan. “We know an increase in local case count can be scary, however, with expanded testing criteria and the reporting of probable cases we will have a better sense of where COVID-19 is and how it could be spreading in our communities.”
The East Jordan and Bellaire Family Health Centers continues to work daily to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and are proud of the hard work that our staff has put into protecting our community and developing a plan for future care. Bellaire Family Health Center will soon be offering drive up COVID testing based on MDHHS and CDC guidelines and priority.
