Chairperson

Janelle Kassien is a seasoned professional with over 20 years of experience in the field of mental health. She is a passionate advocate for individuals with disabilities and has dedicated her career to helping them achieve their full potential.

Janelle holds a Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work from Michigan State University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with minors in Philosophy and Business from Calvin University. She is currently a Research Assessment Specialist at Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services where she collects data on multiple studies and provides risk assessments for vulnerable adults who have volunteered to be involved in human research projects regarding mental health conditions.

Janelle has also served as the Intake Supports Coordinator at North Country CMH, an International and Domestic Adoption Specialist at Bethany Christian Services, and a Home Supervisor for an Adult Foster Care Home at Summertree Residential Centers, Inc. Throughout her career, Janelle has demonstrated a commitment to serving vulnerable populations. As an intern she co-facilitated support groups for domestic violence offenders and victims, provided oversight and assisted with licensing of children’s foster care homes, and provided protective services.

Janelle’s extensive experience and expertise in the field of mental health make her a valuable asset to any organization. She is a strong leader with a proven track record of success. She is also a committed advocate for social justice and is passionate about making a difference in the lives of others.

In her free time, Janelle enjoys reading, playing tennis, kayaking, taking walks in nature, and all things musical.

Vice Chairperson

With over three decades of experience in the steel and automotive industries, Tim is an accomplished Human Resources and Information Technology professional. He has a deep understanding of labor relations, process improvement, root cause analysis, and hiring and recruiting. Tim is a resident of Charlevoix and is dedicated to utilizing his skills to enhance the local communities.

Tim was keen to join the Board of Directors of East Jordan Family Health Center as he believes in the organization’s mission to provide top-quality healthcare services to the community. He is passionate about making a positive impact on people’s lives and is eager to use his expertise to help the organization achieve its objectives.

Apart from his professional achievements, Tim is also a devoted volunteer in his community. He currently serves on the Zoning Board of Appeals for the City of Charlevoix and has previously held leadership positions in the Ford Homes Historic District and the School Parents Association.  Tim continues to follow a pattern of learning and self-development in his life by taking on new challenges and broadening his skillset.  He is a licensed Private Pilot, a licensed Remote (drone) Pilot, loves downhill skiing, challenges himself by steering a Luge, and still likes riding his bicycle to new places.  Due to work responsibilities and pleasure trips, Tim has traveled to well over a dozen countries.

Tim is committed to giving back to his community and making a difference in the lives of those around him.

Treasurer

Brian currently serves as the Finance Director for East Jordan Public Schools and has been employed by the District since 1998.  Prior to his current position, Brian had over a decade of experience in public accounting, performing audits of numerous governmental units, non-profit organizations, and for-profit organizations. Brian’s experience in finance and accounting makes him a valuable addition to the Board of Directors of East Jordan Family Health Center.

Brian is interested in the East Jordan Family Health Center because it has been a vital resource for him and his family for many years. He and his family have received medical services from the Health Center since he moved to East Jordan in 1984. Brian is excited to learn more about the organization and how he can contribute his skills and experience to help the Health Center continue to provide quality care to the community.

Brian’s expertise in finance and accounting, as well as his ability to communicate and work with people, make him a valuable addition to the Board of Directors. With a Master of Business Administration degree and CPA certification, he has a strong foundation in business management and leadership. Brian also has experience volunteering with the East Jordan Housing Commission and helping out with school events when needed. He looks forward to the opportunity to serve on the Board of Directors and contribute to the success of the East Jordan Family Health Center.

Secretary

Cara Griffiths was elected to the Board of Directors on November 7th, 2013. She brings with her a wealth of experience from her time working in the healthcare industry, including five years at a nursing home where she saw firsthand the challenges of Medicare/Medicaid and dementia care. Cara is currently retired and is dealing with the high cost of prescriptions, donut hole payments, co-payments, and premiums.

Early in her career, Cara spent 15 years working as an associate for Mitsubishi Motor Manufacturing in the material handling department in Normal, Illinois. Driving a forklift and supplying inventory to the assembly line. The auto plant eventually closed, leaving her without a job. It’s a similar scene to what has happened to the auto industry in Michigan where good jobs and benefits have disappeared.

Cara is passionate about improving access to primary healthcare in her community. She believes that everyone should have affordable access to quality care, and she has seen the need for this firsthand in her area. Her experience in the healthcare industry, combined with her commitment to making a difference, makes her an excellent addition to the Board of Directors.

In addition to her work in healthcare, Cara has also volunteered at the East Jordan Senior Center’s Commission on Aging, where she worked in the dietary position. She also spent five years at Grandvue Health Care Facility working in dietary and housekeeping services, where she had direct contact with senior residents, including those in the dementia care wing. Her commitment to serving her community is evident in her volunteer work, and she is eager to continue making a difference through her work on the Board of Directors.

Director

Chelsea Martin joined the Bellaire and East Jordan Family Health Center Board of Directors in 2025. She is the Site Coordinator for Communities in Schools at East Jordan Elementary School, where she provides case management and support services to students and their families, teaches social-emotional learning, and connects families with local resources. Chelsea holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with minors in Criminal Justice and Religious Studies from Grand Valley State University. She brings valuable experience from her previous roles in community mental health and developmental disability services, and she is certified in Youth Mental Health First Aid and CPR. Chelsea is passionate about supporting youth and families and is dedicated to strengthening connections between the Health Center and the community.

Director

With a wealth of experience as an x-ray/mammography technologist, Brenda S. Muladore recently retired from East Jordan Family Health Center after 20 years of dedicated service. During her time there, Brenda was instrumental in the success of the MPCA project, which aimed to increase breast cancer screenings and provide genetic testing. Her leadership on the project resulted in the successful application for a grant to upgrade their mammography equipment. Brenda’s commitment to the Health Center’s mission and her belief in the importance of community work have led her to express interest in serving on the Board of Directors.

Brenda’s extensive experience in the field spans over 30 years, during which time she has developed expertise in quality testing, quality performance, and time management. She has also passed yearly State Inspections and ACR recertifications, demonstrating her commitment to staying up-to-date with the latest industry standards. With her skills and knowledge, Brenda is poised to be a valuable asset to the organization as they continue to serve the community.

In retirement, she enjoys spending more time with my family and friends, helping her husband with welding projects, hiking, fishing, boating, and relaxing at the lake. She also enjoys gardening with her dog Geena, a constant companion watching her. She plans to do more volunteer work within the community in the near future as I think it’s so important to stay active and involved.

Phyllis Priest is a highly experienced registered nurse with over 20 years of experience in various healthcare settings. She has worked at the EJFHC, Charlevoix Hospital (now Munson Medical Center) and as an in-home or private duty nurse. Phyllis has also volunteered and advocated for several adoption/foster care agencies, including the Adopt America Network and Families 4 Kids that focus on special needs adoption advocacy. Her extensive knowledge related to access for care needs and medical and behavioral health advocacy makes her a valuable asset to any healthcare organization.

Phyllis is interested in our organization because she has watched the EJFHC grow from a concept to its current state. She believes that access to comprehensive health care services is an important aspect of our local community and wants to be an active participant in the process of being responsive to the needs of the community and its populations. Her unique perspective as a healthcare provider, consumer, and advocate makes her a valuable addition to our board of directors.

Phyllis has expertise in healthcare access and needs across multiple facilities, geographical areas, and patient populations. Her knowledge and experience as a healthcare provider and advocate, as well as her experience as a member of the East Jordan community for decades, make her a valuable asset to our organization. Currently, she has no other volunteer commitments but continues to advocate for special needs children in need of homes and foster/adoptive parents and occasionally volunteers in local school classrooms or adult enrichment centers.

In her spare time, Phyllis enjoys reading and crafting. “Never worry about numbers. Help one person at a time, and always start with the person nearest you,” is her favorite quote by Mother Theresa.

Mary Ann Scott, a seasoned 31-year financial expert, has been a valuable employee of 4Front Credit Union for many years, serving as a loan officer for 27 of those years. She is excited to bring her extensive knowledge and experience to a new organization, as she joins the board of directors. Though she may not have prior experience in the healthcare sector, she is eager to learn and contribute to a local organization.

Mary Ann’s financial expertise, gained through years of serving as a treasurer and loan officer, will be a valuable asset to the organization. She is committed to utilizing her skills to help the organization achieve its goals. Furthermore, Mary Ann has demonstrated her dedication to community involvement and volunteerism. She currently serves as the treasurer of the Banks Township Historical Society since 2009 and is Vice President of the East Jordan Historical Society, serving in that capacity since 2020.

In Mary Ann’s spare time, she enjoys Geology, working & researching on her family trees, and enjoys many types of crafts including painting & decoupaging farmhouse signs & designs.
